Bereavement Counselling

What Is Bereavement Counselling:

Bereavement counselling is for those that have experienced a loss either recently or in the past. Losses can either be from people or pets and also the loss of a different way than you thought things might turn out. These losses can be from a miscarriage, stillborn, health complication at birth, SIDS, accidental or environmental death, murder or from GBH, death at work, death due to health complications, a death that occurred naturally such as after a long life or even trying to come to terms with your terminal illness. You might have had a loss from Covid19 and had to not follow what you would normally do as you couldn’t visit a hospital to say goodbye or have a larger funeral. Some people feel bereaved when the health condition they have such as multiple sclerosis or other autoimmune conditions means they cannot work full-time or move about the way they used to. Going from a busy working or social environment, sitting on the couch every day can be demoralising. By talking to another online it can start to feel like you have a sense of connection to the world again.

Sometimes grief can happen when we have lost a job or maybe the home we live in due to unexpected reasons. Sometimes it’s a loss that hard to talk about such as knowing your baby has a health condition that will make their life different when you were expecting a healthy child. This can also happen when a child or partner has a health condition which means everyone may need to be more careful. It can also be the loss of a family item that disappears after a loved one’s death.

People can feel the loss at various growing up milestones that one missed or was never praised for one child. They can be a sense of loss if there were not any positive role models while growing up.

Who Needs Bereavement Counselling:

Those who have experienced a loss through death or circumstance either recently or in the past.

How Long Bereavement Counselling Takes:

It takes as long as is needed because loss can either cause short or long-term feelings. So, if it is over the loss of a loved one then it can depend on how long you knew them or how they died. Some people are helped by carrying a photo of the person or pets that has died to help with comforting themselves. If the heartache floors like its lasting too long it is okay to ask for help from either a counsellor online, face-to-face or add a bereavement service like Cruse.

Benefits:

After treatment, it means you can think more about the time with them or cherished memories rather than the last final moments that might have been scary. It is also a way of remembering and sharing with future members of the family those they were too young to see or meet.
