What are Chronic Health Conditions

Counselling or Psychotherapy:

This can be needed for health conditions that are either medical or psychological that have occurred or got worse over time. Counselling can help after the unsettled feelings when someone has been given a diagnosis. It can also happen if a loved one becomes ill and you are needing to help out or watch times when they are suffering. Sometimes it is because it can be hard to find a diagnosis. After all, the symptoms you have might not make sense. It may also be because you had expected to recover fully but now find you have had to take time away from work or switch roles in the family if you were the one that sorted things out.

Some need to see that even with a diagnosis life can feel a bit more normal again and I speak from experience. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in 1973 so life changed drastically I needed emotional support from time to time. As a result, I have accomplished more than expected. I have lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 51 years so understand that daily routines maybe different from others in your life.

It may be a child in your family that has been diagnosed with the condition that has made life more challenging for everyone even though no one is to blame. I have worked with children that have health conditions like diabetes or cancer or with conditions that may have special educational needs (SEN) in school. I am qualified to work with children from 6 to 18 to help them with their needs or stress.

Who Needs Chronic Health Counselling?

Those who feel they may be unwell because of events in the past or genetic factors. I cannot diagnose medical issues but can support them after a doctor has given results. I can also work with psychological issues that you may also have been given or discovered over time. In the past I volunteered for Diabetes UK and Scope giving educational feedback on these conditions or the organisation supporting certain conditions. In my teens I also worked as a volunteer in a hospital unit for children who had health conditions and needed more than three months in hospital as they had quite complicated health conditions. I also spoke to the parents who were also going through a lot of stress. As adults I worked in a special educational need’s nursery school for children from ages 0 to 5 and need a lot of support, I would also sit with parents who were in shock from what their little ones were going through and to also hear life can go on it just might be on a different path to other people. I took the experience of care I gave to both these in supporting the needs of children and adults who are coping with new health conditions or even once they’ve lived with such a long time.
