Supervision

What Is Supervision:

Supervision can assist in the work others have in their counselling or psychotherapy work. Supervision is for those that are required by membership bodies to have monthly support in either their counselling or supervision work. It is also required by some insurance companies so they know there is some guidance in your work. It can help those that are new to the counselling field or those with years of experience. I also tutor online supervision so do know many things that could help your practice.

My background as a supervisor has lasted since 2014 and after that time due to my knowledge I was asked to tutor online supervision for almost 5 years. I do take students who are on counselling or supervision related courses. Due to the postgraduate degree, I did was in integrity of counselling I can work with psychodynamic, humanistic, Gestalt, person centred and a variety of other areas. I also hold qualifications so I can see those who are doing CBT courses. When students do start with me, I always ask them to doublecheck with their tutor that they are happy with my background for me to be a supervisor of this student the course they are taking at that time. I generally do one and half hours and can do two sessions per month which may be requested by certain training organisations. If people have huge caseloads or very complex clients, I can do additional sessions if required.

Who Needs It:

Trainees, counsellors, psychotherapists, or supervisors. I have also supervised those that work in the medical profession via an organisation that was set up during the pandemic called Frontline 19 for staff that were in frontline services.

How Long It Takes:

It can be monthly for 1 ½ hours or more if needed.

Benefits:

Improves your counselling or supervisory experience. It can also help one to bring more balance and additional self-care if needed. At times supervisees are so busy looking after their clients or their own supervisees, children at home, parents or household matters that they end up being the last on the list to receive care.

It is okay to get support by supervision or by meeting of other clinicians in the shared coffee meet up or setting aside time for yourself to recharge your own batteries.
