What Is Depression:

This can make you feel tired or irritable in your daily life leading to withdrawing from normal activities like going out. Some people can work while feeling depressed while others don’t have the energy to leave their room or home. Depression can also bring feelings about yourself that are not always accurate. Depression can adjust your thinking about yourself so that you don’t feel worthy or don’t think you should exist. It can cause disturbed sleep or fill time with eating or gaming more than you use to. It can also cause the reverse of not eating or not doing work online as you are not sure you can. It can occur with anxiety so it doesn’t always travel alone in its feelings.

Studies have shown that those who had a lot of challenges during their childhood, experience the death of a loved one or lived with health condition long-term can times feel depressed. In London it was found that individuals with type I or type II diabetes may feel more anxious or depressed than people without these conditions.

It is known that men are more prone than women to lose their life from suicide. people that have survived suicide attempts do need some extra support and it is okay to ask for help. Those that served in the military may not get the emotional support people would assume they get however sometimes the fallout can occur after they were medically discharged. By talking to another especially if you’ve been in a job with harmful events can help to ease that pressure because how one feels does change when the pressure one feels is reduced a bit more.

Who Needs Depression Counselling:

Those that don’t feel they can leave the house because of an event that can bring on sadness such as a loss of a person, friend, pet, or job. Over the pandemic, due to advice for everyone to stay at home, some became so isolated that it started to feel like normal and did bring an increase for many of either anxiety or depression. It may be now that restrictions have eased that you are still staying in because of fears of what might be out there. It can also be that because you worked yourself to exhaustion you felt depleted and needed time off and now you would like to return to work or activities. The cost-of-living crisis and government policies are adding to the feelings of many individuals.

If you are feeling suicidal at this moment then it’s important to reach out to organisations like Samaritans on 116 123

How Long It Takes:

I would like to suggest one starts and if it feels beneficial then staying longer. I would say starting with six weeks as it can take some time to build trust and say why you may be feeling low.

Benefits:

It can start with being able to do small things like leaving the home or taking up some exercise. It means you will be able to socialise again and visit family you haven’t seen in a while if you want to. The benefits will be different for each person so I have seen others take up studies, travel to a new country, start a new job or enjoy time with their children. One can learn that although negative emotions can be felt at other times more positive emotions begin to emerge again so people for more balanced.
